Was that fair actually worth it?

Takings minus the stall fee only tells half the story. Add your travel, materials, card fees and hours to see what the day really paid you.

Time spent making what you sold. Leave blank if you don't know.

What most sellers leave out

  • Materials in what you sold, not just the pitch
  • Fuel or wear on the car, at HMRC's 55p a mile
  • Card reader fees on every tap
  • The hours: packing, driving, setting up and making the stock

Why your hours change the answer

A Christmas fair that took £612 can look brilliant. Take off £190 of materials, a £45 stall, £72.90 of travel and £6.76 of card fees and you kept £297.34. Over 17.5 hours on the day that's £16.99 an hour. Count the 26.4 hours of making too and it drops to £6.77 an hour.

How we decide

Rebook it!
You earned at least £12.71 an hour (the UK National Living Wage).
Worth a rethink
You made money, but less than £12.71 an hour.
Give it a miss
The fair cost you more than it paid.
